Pseurotin A is a fungal metabolite with an unusual hetero-spirocyclic ring system. It has been shown to have potent neuritogenic activity in PC12 phaechromocytoma cells, a useful model for adrenergic neuronal differentiation. Pseurotin A induced multipolar and branching neurites comparable to beta-NGF, an endogenous neurotrophic factor. Pseurotin A is also reported to exhibit chitinase inhibition and displays synergistic activity with azole antifungal agents.
