Centrin 2, also known as caltractin, EF-hand protein 2, and 20 kD calcium-binding protein, is a calcium-binding protein that contains 4 EF-hand domains. Centrin 2 is highly expressed in the retina and testis, also expressed in liver, skeletal muscle and cardiac muscle. The centrin-2 protein plays a critical function in normal cell division, and is known to associate with the centrosomes, mitotic spindle poles, and basal bodies. Centrin 2 has a fundamental role in the structure and function of the microtubule-organizing center and has been shown to associate with the RAD23B, SFI1, and Xeroderma pigmentosum group C complementing proteins. The Poly6288 antibody recognizes human centrin 2 and has been shown to be useful for Western blotting.
