Developmental pluripotency-associated (Dppa) 4 is one such uncharacterized gene expressed in ES cells. Dppa4 has been originally identified as a gene expressed in mouse early embryos with other factors named Dppa1, Dppa2, and Dppa5. The expression of Dppa4 is restricted to early developmental stages and germ cells including primordial germ cells, gonads, and testis.
