Tryptases and chymases are the major proteins stored and secreted by mast cells. However, mast cells maturing from different tissues can vary widely in the types and amounts of those enzymes expressed. MCP-11 is preferentially express in the bone marrow and spleen among normal tissues in contrast to other mast cell tryptases. In vivo, mMCP-11 is highly expressed by primary basophils and in basophils infiltrating allergic tissues. It is expressed at much lower level in mast cells.
