In mice, the TCR g locus consists of seven Vg, four Jg and four Cg genes, which are differentially expressed through their lifespan. During fetal and early postnatal life, very few gamma/delta T cells express TCR Vgamma1.1 or Vgamma1.2 chains. In adult mice, however, a major fraction of the gamma/delta T cell repertoire comprise either TCR Vgamma1.1 or Vgamma1.2 chains. The Vgamma1.1 gene rearranges almost exclusively with the Jg4-Cg4 genes, while the Vgamma1.2 gene preferentially does with Jg1.
