This rat basophilic leukemia (RBL) cell line was established from chlorethylamine-treated rats; the cells were described to show marked variations in differentiation dependent on the growth rate and the cell cycle phases. The line exhibits various characteristics of basophil differentiation including histamine release and surface receptors for IgE. The species was confirmed by Real-Time PCR.
