S100A9, also known as Calgranulin-B, belongs to the S100 family containing EF-hand type Ca2+-binding proteins. It is involved in the regulation of a number of cellular processes such as cell cycle progression and differentiation, and associated with the disease cystic fibrosis. S100A9 has been implicated in the abnormal differentiation of myeloid cells in the stroma of cancer. This protein may function in the inhibition of casein kinase.
