Serotonin Receptor 2C (HTR2C, 5-hydroxytryptamine Receptor 2C, 5-HT-2C, 5-HT2C, 5-HTR2C, 5-hydroxytryptamine Receptor 1C, 5-HT-1C, 5-HT1C, HTR1C)

Serotonin Receptor 2C (5-HT2C) activates phospholipase C, resulting in a transient increase in intracellular calcium and activation of protein kinase C. Mutant mice lacking functional 5-HT2C receptor are overweight due to abnormal feeding behavior and are prone to epileptic seizures. Therefore, agonists of the 5-HT2C receptor such as m-chlorophenylpiperazine (mCPP) may be potential drugs for the treatment of obesity. However, mCPP also has unpleasant side effects such as anxiety and nausea in humans. Most psychedelic drugs bind 5-HT2A and 5-HT2C receptors, and their hallucinogenicity correlates with binding affinity. Expression of the 5-HT2C receptor has been reported predominantly in brain, but also in spinal cord and lung. ESTs have been isolated from human, mouse, and rat brain libraries.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nELISA: 1:64,000\nWestern Blot: 1-3ug/ml, observed in lysates of human EBV immortalised Lymphoblastoids, T cell MOLT4 and monocytic cell line U937 on ~50kD bands\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
