The SW-1353 cell line was initiated by A. Leibovitz at the Scott and White Clinic, Temple, Texas in 1977 from a primary grade II chondrosarcoma of the right humerus obtained from a 72 year old female Caucasian. The initial culture medium was L-15 containing cortisone and insulin plus 10% fetal bovine serum and antibiotics.
