TAO1 (thousand and one amino acids 1) and TAO2 are protein kinases that are both greater than a thousand amino acids in length (1-3). Both TAO1 and TAO2 contain a regulatory domain of over 700 amino acids in length. TAOs have MAP kinase kinase kinase (MAP3K) activity and activate MAPK pathways. Specifically TAOs phosphorylate the p38-activating kinases called MAP/ERK kinases (MEKs, also known as MKKs or MAP2Ks) 3 and 6, which then phosphorylate p38. In this regard, TAO protein kinases are thought to play essential roles in signaling from physiological agonists to the stress-responsive p38 MAPKs. Additionally, autophosphorylation of TAO may play a role in the mechanism of TAO activation. The MEK binding domain of TAO is autophosphorylated on both serine and threonine residues and Ser181 is located within the MEK binding domain.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Western Blot.
