Tau (Tau Protein, Microtubule-associated Protein, MAP), Neurofibrillary tangle protein, Paired helical filament-tau, PHF-tau, MAPT, MTBT1, TAU)

Promotes microtubule assembly and stability, and might be involved in the establishment and maintenance of neuronal polarity. The C-terminus binds axonal microtubules while the N-terminus binds neural plasma membrane components, suggesting that tau functions as a linker protein between both. Axonal polarity is predetermined by tau localization (in the neuronal cell) in the domain of the cell body defined by the centrosome. The short isoforms allow plasticity of the cytoskeleton whereas the longer isoforms may preferentially play a role in its stabilization. \nThe tau/MAP repeat binds to tubulin. In Alzheimer disease, the neuronal cytoskeleton in the brain is progressively disrupted and replaced by tangles of paired helical filaments and straight filaments, mainly composed of hyperphosphorylated forms of Microtubule-associated protein Tau. Defects in Microtubule- associated protein Tau are a cause of frontotemporal dementia and Parkinsonism linked to chromosome 17, as well as a number of other neurodegenerative diseases.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Immunohistochemistry and Western Blot. Other applications have not been tested. \n\nRecommended Dilutions: \nImmunohistochemistry (Paraffin-embedded/Frozen sections): 1:100-1:1000\nWestern Blot: 1:100-1:1000\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. \n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with sterile 40-50% glycerol, ddH2O. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
