The thyrotropin receptor (or TSH receptor) is a gene (and associated protein) which responds to thyroid-stimulating hormone (also known as "thyrotropin", and stimulates the production of thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The TSH receptor is a member of the G-protein coupled receptor superfamily of integral membrane protein. It is primarily found on the surface of the thyroid epithelial cell. It should not be confused with "thyrotropin-releasing hormone" (TRH) or "thyrotropin-releasing hormone receptor" (TRHR). The TSH receptor is found mainly on thyroid follicular cells. Stimulation of the receptor increases T3 and T4 production and secretion.\nStimulating antibodies to this receptor mimic TSH and cause Graves' disease. The thyrotropin receptor has been reported in adipose, adrenal, brain, eye, heart, kidney, skin, thymus, and thyroid. ESTs have been isolated from brain, placenta, and thyroid libraries.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 1:500. Detects a 50 kDa and a 63 kDa protein representing unglycosylated and glycosylated TSRH respectively, in transfected Sf9 cell extract.\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nPositive Control: Transfected Sf9 cell extract.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile glycerol (40-50%), aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 3 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
