Tryptase is classified as a hydrolase, serine protease or serine endopeptidase. It is found in mast cell granules. Acts on peptide bonds and displays a high affinity for heparin. Exhibits preferential cleavage of Arg, Lys. Tryptase is not inhibited by alpha-1 proteinase inhibitors or alpha-2 macroglobulin. Involved in allergic reactions and anti-histamine release.
