Transferrin is a glycoprotein with an approximate molecular weight of 76.5kD. It is thought to have been created as a result of an ancient gene duplication event that led to generation of homologous C and N terminal domains each of which binds 1 ion of ferric iron. The function of this encoded protein is to transport iron from the intestine, reticuloendothelial system, and liver parenchymal cells to all proliferating cells in the body. In addition to its function in iron transport, this protein may also have a physiologic role as granulocyte/pollen binding protein (GPBP) involved in the removal of certain organic matter/allergins from serum. Applications: Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilutions: ELISA: 0.1ug/ml Western Blot: 1:2000; Predicted molecular weight 77kD. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Plasma Transferrin protein Recommended Secondary Antibodies: I1906: IgY, Chicken Pab Rb x Ch I1906-10: IgY, Chicken (HRP) Rb x Ch I1906-12: IgY, Chicken (FITC) Rb x Ch I1906-14: IgY, Chicken (AP) Rb x Ch Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
