The TRPA1 protein has up to 18 N-terminal and presumed cytoplasmic ankyrin repeats followed by the six membrane spanning and single pore-loop domains. It localizes in the 8q13 region of chromosome. The structure of TRPA1 is highly related to both the protein ankyrin and transmembrane proteins. The function of TRPA1 may involve a role in signal transduction and growth control. TRPA1 is a TRP-related channel that responds to cold temperatures, and pungent compounds that include the cold-mimetic icilin and cannabinoids. TRPA1 associates with the tumor-suppressor protein CYLD and TRPA1 is a novel substrate for the de-ubiquitinating activity of CYLD. TRPA1 is expressed at very low level in Human fibroblasts and at a moderate level in liposarcoma cells.
