USP medium for total aerobic portion of microbial limit test. A primary media for preparing blood plates.
Tryptic soy agar (TSA) is a general-purpose base medium used for the cultivation of fastidious microorganisms. TSA is a highly nutritious medium consisting of soybean-casein digest. The addition of blood to TSA facilitates the growth of more fastidious microorganisms. Allowing for the interpretation of hemolytic reactions
Hemolysis:
Beta Hemolysis: Clear zone surrounding the colony indicating complete lysis of the red blood cells.
Alpha Hemolysis: Green discoloration surrounding the colony indicating partial lysis of the red blood cells.
Alpha Prime Hemolysis: Green discoloration followed by a clear zone.
Gamma Hemolysis: No lysis of the red blood cells surrounding the colony.
Note: Hemolysis may vary with the microorganism and/or the blood source.
