Tryptone Glucose Extract Agar is a standard methods medium for the cultivation and enumeration of microorganisms in dairy and bottled water products. This medium was adopted in 1948 by the American Public Health Association (APHA) for use in testing milk and dairy products. It is also currently the specified medium for the heterotrophic plate count procedure for testing bottled water.
