Synaptobrevin 2 (Syb2), also known as vesicle associated membrane protein-2 (VAMP2), is a 13kD membrane protein that belongs to the v-SNARE family of proteins, and is an essential component in neurotransmitter exocytosis from the presynaptic membrane. It is expressed on the synaptic vesicle, where it is bound by synaptophysin.
Synaptophysin targets the vesicle to the presynaptic membrane and releases Syb2, which forms a stable complex with syntaxin and SNAP-25 (both expressed on the target membrane). Nerve cell depolarization and influx of calcium leads to vesicle fusion and neurotransmitter release into the synapse.
Applications:
Suitable for use in ELISA and Western Blot. Other applications not tested.
Recommended Dilution:
Western Blot: 1:2,000-1:3,000
Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.
Hybridoma:
Sp2/0 myeloma cells with spleen cells from Balb/c mice.
Storage and Stability:
May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
