The vasopressin V1B receptor is a member of the Vasopressin/Oxytocin Family subfamily. The V1B receptor is expressed specifically in pituitary corticotropes and mediates the stimulatory effect of vasopressin on adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) release. Vasopressin V1B receptor expression has been documented in the pituitary, pituitary tumors, pheochromocytoma, breast cancer, and small-cell lung carcinomas.
