Vitronectin (Serum Spreading Factor, Somatomedin B, Complement S-Protein)

Vitronectin is a plasma glycoprotein that circulates in the blood. Vitronectin circulates as a mixture of both 75kD and 65kD forms. Vitronectin is a major cell adhesive glycoprotein and is a common component of extracellular matrix and plasma. It competes effectively with other plasma proteins and is often involved in cell attachment, regulation of blood coagulation and immune responses. It has similar tissue distribution to fibronectin and also its integrin receptor recognises fibronectin (1).\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in ELISA, Immunohistochemistry and Inhibition. Can be used to probe vitronectin conformation. Not suitable for Western Blot (2). Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilutions:\nELISA: 1:16,000 (1,2,3)\nImmunohistochemistry (frozen PLP-fixed sections): 1:100\nInhibition: Inhibits integrin-mediated cell adhesion to bovine vitronectin.\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nCulture medium: \nRPMI 1640 with 10% fetal calf serum.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Additional Info

Recognizes bovine vitronectin. There is no evidence for cross-reactivity with other connective tissue proteins (fibronectin, elastin, collagen, laminin). Species Crossreactivity: rabbit and equine. Does not recognize human or sheep.
