BCL2L11 (Bcl-2-like Protein 11, Bcl2-L-11, Bcl2-interacting Mediator of Cell Death, BIM)

Bim is a potent pro-apoptotic protein belonging to the B-cell lymphoma 2 protein family. Bim exerts its effects by interacting with prosurvival members of the Bcl2 family like Bcl2, BclxL and Bclw. Transcription of BIM gene is usually suppressed by serum, growth factors and cytokines, and increases upon withdrawal of such survival factors. Bim can be phosphorylated resulting in increased apoptotic activities. Transgenic animal model indicates that Bim regulates negative selection in the thymus. Additionally, Bim and IL-7 levels are critical for the survival and development of B lymphocytes; Bim expression is upregulated during development. The Bim mRNA undergoes alternate splicing to give rise to the short, long and extra long protein variants (Bim(S), Bim(L) and Bim(EL)). These proteins have distinct potency in promoting death and distinct modes of regulation.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Western Blot. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 2ug/ml\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
