CD68 (MACROSIALIN, DKFZp686M18236, Macrophage antigen, SCARD1, Scavenger receptor class D member1) (FITC)

CD68, also called Scavenger Receptor D1 (SR-D1), is a type I transmembrane glycoprotein. Macrosialin is the murine homolog of the human macrophage glycoprotein CD68, both are members of the lysosomal-associated membrane protein (LAMP) family which are located predominantly within the cells and can be detected by flow cytometry using cell permeablization. CD68 is a 110kD transmembrane (Type I) glycoprotein consisting of a polypeptide of 37408D (354 amino acids) predicted from the cDNA sequence that is highly expressed by human monocytes and tissue macrophages. CD68 plays a role in phagocytic activities of tissue macrophages, both in intracellular lysosomal metabolism and extracellular cell-cell and cell-pathogen interactions. Binds to tissue- and organ-specific lectins or selectins, allowing homing of macrophage subsets to particular sites. Rapid recirculation of CD68 from endosomes, lysosomes to the plasma membrane may allow macrophages to crawl over selectin bearing substrates or other cells.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Flow Cytometry. Other applications not tested. \n\nRecommended Dilutions: \nFlow Cytometry: Use 10ul to label 10e6 cells in 100ul. Membrane permeabilization is required for this application.\nOptimal dilution determined by the researcher\n\nRecommended Negative Control: \nI1904-82E1: IgG2a, Rat Negative Control (FITC)\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. FITC conjugates are sensitive to light.

Additional Info

Recognizes mouse CD68. Macrosialin is a heavily glycosylated transmembrane protein of 87-115kD, which is specifically expressed by tissue macrophages, Langerhans cells and at low levels by dendritic cells. This antibody detects surface macrosialin at low levels in resident mouse peritoneal macrophages which can be enhanced with thioglycollate stimulation.
