CD75, a 46kD Type II transmembrane protein, is a novel member of Sialyltransferase family of proteins. It is expressed in multiple cell types and is localized within the golgi apparatus. It is expressed in 2 isoforms and regulates the sialylation of various cellular glycoproteins which inturn play a key role in functions including brain development, neuronal plasticity, homing of lymphocytes, B-cell maturation and activation, thymocyte selection and also as receptors for viruses, toxins and parasites. Patholgical significance of CD75 has also been implicated in certain tumors.
