Collagenase, Type IV, C. histolyticum

Cat no: C7511-70

Collagenase, Type IV, C. histolyticum

Collagenases are endopeptidases that digest native collagen in the triple helix region. Collagens are the major fibrous component of animal extracellular connective tissue. Bacterial collagenases differ from vertebrate collagenases in that they exhibit broader substrate specificity Unlike animal collagenases that split collagen in its native triple-helical conformation, bacterial collagenase is unique because it can degrade both water-insoluble native collagens and water-soluble denatured ones. It can attack almost all collagen types, and is able to make multiple cleavages within triple helical regions. \n\nUnit Definition:\n1 unit releases 1umole of L-leucine equivalents from collagen in 5 hours at 37C, pH 7.5.\n\nActivity:\n(same/more than)160 units/mg dry weight\n\nUnits/mg Caseinase (dw):\nAs reported\n\nUnits/mg Clostripain (dw):\nAs reported\n\nUnits/mg Tryptic (dw):\nAs reported\n\nAbsorbance mg/ml @ 280 nm:\nAs reported\n\nCofactors:\nZinc, Calcium\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in pancreatic islet primary isolation and other applications where receptor integrity is crucial. Collagenase is prepared to contain lower tryptic activity levels to limit damage to membrane proteins and receptors but with normal to above normal collagenase activity.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at 4 degrees C. Storage at -20C (desiccated) is also acceptable.
