Cytomegalovirus (blend)

Cytomegalovirus is an enveloped double stranded DNA virus which in humans (HCMV) is commonly known as human Herpes virus 5 (HHV-5). Glycoprotein B (gB) is the main antigenic protein within the envelope of HCMV. It is required for HCMV mediated membrane fusion along with the gH/gL complex. The unprocessed precursor of HCMV gB is 906 amino acids in length, with a MW of ~100kD. \n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Immunofluorescence and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested. \n\nRecommended Dilutions: \nOptimal dilutions to be determined by researcher. \n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Recognizes Cytomegalovirus. Reacts with Immediate early, early and late antigen preparations. Can detect CMV infection within 2 hours post-infection exhibiting a nuclear staining which reaches peak intensity between 48 and 96 hours. Can be detected during the complete CMV infection cycle. Staining of CMV structural antigens becomes apparent at about 48 hours. Extra-nuclear staining is first seen in the region of the golgi apparatus followed subsequently by staining of viral proteins and particles in the cytoplasm.
