Eukaryotic initiation factor 4G (eIF4G) is a member of the eIF4 class of translational initiation factors involved in recognition of the mRNA cap, ATP-dependent unwinding of 5'-terminal secondary structure and recruitment of mRNA to the ribosome. eIF4G is a 200kD scaffolding protein that binds eIF4E, eIF4A and the eIF4E-kinase Mnk1 simultaneously. The C-terminus of eIF4G is highly phosphorylated and contains three serine phosphorylation sites (1108, 1148 and 1192). eIF4G serine 1108 is phosphorylated in response to various extracellular stimuli including serum and is sensitive to specific inhibitors of the PI3K and FRAP/mTOR signaling pathways. Applications: Suitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Western Blot: 1:500-1:1,000 Immunohistochemistry: 1:50-1:100 Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
