A selective confirmatory medium used to detect Enterococci in water.
Description:
This medium is highly selective for enterococci due to the presence of sodium azide and ethyl violet, which inhibit Gram negative bacilli and Gram positive sporeformers. The medium contains a phosphate buffer system for pH control. Peptone, yeast extract and dextrose provide the nutrients that support the growth of enterococci.
Storage:
Store the sealed bottle containing the dehydrated medium at 2 to 30.0 degrees C. Once opened and recapped, place the container in a low humidity environment at the same storage temperature. Protect it from moisture and light. The dehydrated medium should be discarded if it is not free flowing or if the color has changed from the original light beige color.
