Imidazole (1,3-Diazo-2,4-cyclopentadiene; 1,3-Diazacyclopenta-2,4-diene; 1,3-diazole)

Imidazole can be used for the elution of histidine containing proteins from divalent cation resins.\n\nImidazole can be used to prepare buffers in the pH range of 6.2-7.8 at 25 degrees C. It is also a chelator for the binding of various divalent cations. \n\nThe logs of the binding constants for various divalent cations are below:\nDivalent Cation Log binding constant\nCa2+ 0.1\nMn2+ 1.6\nFe2+ 3.3\nCo2+ 2.4\nNi2+ 2.9\nCu2+ 4.2\nZn2+ 2.0\n\nSolubility (10%):\nColorless, clear, complete\nImidazole is soluble in dH2O (~500mg/ml).\n\nBoiling Point: ~256 degrees C\n\nMelting Point: 88-92 degrees C\n\nStorage and Stability:\nPowder may be stored at 4 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with ddH2O Aliquot and store at 4 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -4 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer. Protect from light.
