Pseudorabies Virus (PRV, Alphaherpesvirus Pseudorabies Virus, Aujeszky's Disease Virus, Suid Herpes virus 1, Suid Herpes virus Type 1)

Herpes simplex virus (HSV), varicella-zoster virus (VZV) and pseudorabies virus (PRV) comprise a family of neurotropic viruses known as alphaherpesviruses. PRV is primarily a disease of swine which serve as a reservoir for the virus and the principal source of natural infection for a diverse range of secondary hosts, including cattle, sheep, goats, dogs, cats, and many feral species. Humans and apes are refractory to PRV infection. PRV infects the epithelium of the host where it then spreads to axons of the peripheral nervous system (PNS). The virus opportunistically avails itself of the neuronal retrograde transport pathway which can facilitate transfer to the brain. This unique aspect of PRV allows it to be used as a powerful research tool to study neural connectivity and trace neuronal circuitry in the peripheral (PNS) and central nervous system (CNS).\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 0.2-1ug/ml. Detects proteins in the range 80-115kD representing various PRV proteins. \nImmunohistochemistry: 1:10-1:2000. Hypothalamus from animals injected with PRV into the vitreous body of the eye results in intense staining of neurons in the superchiasmatic nucleus.\nImmunohistochemistry (Frozen): 1:10-1:2000\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
