Symplekin

Symplekin is a duel location protein, which is localized to the cytoplasmic plaques of tight junctions, and has also been found in the form of interchromatin particles in the nucleoplasm of cells. Both symplekin mRNA and protein has been detected in many cell types; some of these cell types do not form tight junctions, or are unable to form any kind of stable cell-cell contact1. Symplekin protein occurs in mostly granular looking, karyoplasmic structures, and in mitotic telophase, it re-accumulates like a typical nuclear protein 1
