Valsolin Containing Protein (VCP) is a member of a family that includes putative ATP-binding proteins involved in vesicle transport and fusion, 26S proteasome function, and assembly of peroxisomes. p97/VCP (valosin containing protein) belongs to the AAA ATPase family, predicted molecular weight 97kD. VCP, as a structural protein, is associated with clathrin, and heat-shock protein Hsc70, to form a complex. VCP has been implicated in a number of cellular events that are regulated during mitosis, including homotypic membrane fusion, spindle pole body function, and ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation.\n\nValosin-containing protein (VCP or p97) belongs to the AAA (ATPase associated activities) family and acts as a molecular chaperone to a wide variety of cellular activities. Some of these activities include the alteration of both nuclear and mitotic golgi membranes, ubiquitin-proteasome dependent protein degradation, regulation of the NF-kappa b pathway, and extraction of membrane proteins. VCP has been shown to contain a substrate binding domain (N) and two conserved ATPase domains (D1 and D2). The three dimensional structure of VCP resembles that of a cylinder with the D1 and D2 stacked upon one another in a homo-hexameric ring formation. VCP is involved in the formation of neuronal inclusion bodies in neurodegenerative disease such as Parkinson's Disease.\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 1:5000-1:15,000\nImmunohistochemistry: paraffin sections \nImmunoprecipitation: 1-4ug/mg of lysate\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
