Vasoactive Intestinal Peptide (VIP)

Located in the nerve fibers in the central and peripheral nervous system, VIP is probably acting as a neurotransmitter. The Verner-Morrison or Water Diarrhea Hypokalemia and Achlorhydria (WDHA) syndrome is a characteristic clinical syndrome associated with overproduction of VIP from endocrine tumors. VIP-producing tumors are usually neuroblastomas or endocrine tumors in the pancreas. The localization of the antigen is extracellular and cytoplasmic.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications have not been tested. \n\nRecommended Dilution:\nImmunohistochemistry (Frozen and Paraffin sections): 1:2500-1:5000 using PAP, or 1:1500-1:3000 using FITC with overnight incubation at 2-8 degrees C.\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. \n\nPositive Control: \nFormalin-fixed paraffin sections of feline ileum.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile 40-50% glycerol, ddH2O and store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.

Recognizes porcine VIP. Absorption with 10-100ug immunogen per ml diluted antiserum abolishes the staining, while PHI, secretin, glucagon, GIP, and CCK do not. Species Crossreactivity: Fish and most mammals including human, feline and rat.
