Blasticidin S is a peptide nucleoside antibiotic that is used as a selection agent for transformed cells that contain the resistance genes bls, bsr, or BSD. It specifically inhibits protein synthesis in both prokaryotes and eukaryotes by interfering with the peptide bound formation in the ribosomal machinery.
