KIT encodes the Human homolog of the proto-oncogene c-kit. C-kit was first identified as the cellular homolog of the feline sarcoma viral oncogene v-kit. The KIT protein is a type III tyrosine-kinase receptor. The ligand for KIIT is MGF (mast cell growth factor, also known as stem cell factor or Steel factor). Mutations in KIT are associated with gastrointestinal stromal tumors, mast cell disease, acute myelogenous lukemia, and piebaldism. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been found for this gene. The KIT protein is expressed in Human bone marrow, brain, intestine, liver, mammary gland, placenta, skin and uterus. It is localized to Human chromosome 4q11-q12. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunohistochemistry (paraffin): 10ug/ml Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Positive Control: Spleen, lymphocytes within periarteriolar lymphoid sheaths Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
