Desmin is the protein subunit of muscle-type intermediate filaments (IFs). Desmin is one of the five major groups of IFs and is found predominantly in skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle. This antibody may be used for immunocytochemical localization of intermediate filaments of the Desmin group in all types of muscle cells and to localize Desmin at the periphery of z-discs. Applications: Suitable for use in Immunofluorescence, Western Blot, Immunohistochemistry and Immunocytochemistry. Other applications not tested. Recommended Dilution: Immunofluorescence: 1:20 Western Blot: Detects a band at ~50-55kD. Immunohistochemistry: Paraffin sections. Optimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher. Storage and Stability: May be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, add sterile 40-50% glycerol, aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
