FGFb (FGF-2) is a member of a family of seven peptides that are potent regulators of cell proliferation, differentiation and function. FGFb stimulates the proliferation of cells of mesodermal origin and many cells of endodermal, ectodermal and neuroectodermal origin. FGFb also induces neuron differentiation, survival and regeneration and stimulates astrocyte migration. FGFb may also be involved in the production of a variety of pathological conditions arising from excessive cell proliferation.
