FMN2 is a protein belonging to the Formin homology family and Cappuccino subfamily (due to their high homology to the Drosophila 'cappuccino' protein). An FH1 domain with 11 proline repeats and a FH2 domain are conserved in both FMN1 and FMN2. It plays an important role in cytoskeletal organization and/or establishment of cell polarity. FMN2 may also be involved in maintenance of the meiotic spindle. Reports suggest that upon DNA damage, FMN2 gets phosphorylated by ATM or ATR. Northern blot analysis revealed the expression of FMN2 exclusively in both developing and mature central nervous system tissues. It is expressed in various human tumors, including parathyloid tumor, glioblastoma, retinoblastoma and chondrosarcoma.
