Integrin alpha5, beta1 (VLA5, Fibronectin Receptor, Very Late Antigen, CD49)

The alpha5 beta1 integrin mediates cell adhesion and migration on fibronectin, a glycoprotein critical for normal vertebrate embryonic development. Indirect evidence reported to date suggests that this receptor also functions in the deposition of fibronectin matrices.\n\nIntegrin alpha5/beta1 purified from smooth muscle under nondenaturing conditions by affinity chromatography on fibronectin-sepharose.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Western Blot, Electrophoresis and Functional Studies. In Functional Studies, liposomes containing Integrin alpha5/beta1 adhere to surfaces coated with fibronectin in an RGD-dependent fashion. Other applications have not been tested.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nAliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing and store at -70 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 6 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.

Supplied as a liquid in 20mM Tris-HCl, pH 7.5, 150mM sodium chloride, 2mM MgCl2, containing 0.2% Triton X-100. No preservatives.

Purity

~95%. Non-reduced SDS-PAGE of 15ug on 5-15% polyacrylamide slab gel and staining with Coomassie blue shows only two main bands at 120kD (beta1 subunit) and 145kD (alpha5 subunit). A weak band at 205kD is due to dimerization of the beta 1 subunit.
