Interferon beta 1 (beta 1a), Recombinant, Human (IFNb1, IFNb1a)

One of the type I interferons produced by fibroblasts in response to stimulation by live or inactivated virus or by double-stranded RNA. It is a cytokine with antiviral, antiproliferative, and immunomodulating activity. The synthesis of IFN-beta can be induced by common inducers of interferons, including viruses, double-stranded RNA, and micro-organisms. It is induced also by some cytokines such as TNF and IL-1 . In contrast to IFN-alpha, IFN-beta is strictly species-specific. IFN-beta of other species is inactive in human cells. IFN-beta is involved in the regulation of unspecific humoral immune responses and immune responses against viral infections. IFN-beta increases the expression of HLA class I antigens and blocks the expression of HLA class II antigens stimulated by IFN-gamma.\n\nRecombinant Human Interferon-Beta 1a is a single, glycosylated polypeptide chain containing 166 amino acids and having a molecular mass of 22500D. \n\nSequence:\nThe sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and was found to be Ser-Tyr-Asn-Leu-Leu. \n\nBiological Activity:\nInterferon Beta-1a is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity as determined in a viral resistance assay (human "Wish" cell line and VSV virus or the monkey VERO cell line with EMCV virus) was found to be 270 x 10e6 IU/ mg. \n\nDimers and Aggregates: < 1% (by silver-stained SDS-PAGE).\n\nProtein Content:\nProtein quantitation was carried out by two independent methods: \n1. UV spectroscopy at 280nm. \n2. Analysis by RP-HPLC, using a standard solution of IFN-beta as a Reference Standard.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer
