Interleukin 5, Recombinant, Human (IL-5, BCDF-alpha, Eosinophil Differentiation Factor, EDF)

Interleukin-5 (IL-5) is a hematopoietic growth factor that stimulates the proliferation and activation of eosinophils.Produced by mast cells, T cells, and eosinophils, IL-5 plays an important role in inducing cell-mediated immunity against parasitic infections and certain tumors. Elevated levels of IL-5 lead to Eosinophilia, which may result in the induction of asthma and other allergic diseases. Human and murine IL-5 is cross-species reactive. Recombinant human IL-5 is a 26kD disulfide-linked homodimeric protein containing two 116 amino acid chains.\n\nBiological Activity: Human IL-5 is fully biologically active when compared to standards. The ED50 as determined by the dose-dependent proliferation of TF-1 cells is (same/less than) 0.15ng/ml, corresponding to a specific activity of (same/more than) 6x10e6 units/mg. For most in vitro applications, IL-5 exerts its biological activity in the concentration range of 0.1-10ng/ml.\n\nResponding Cells (partial list): B cells, eosinophils\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Reconstitute to nominal volume by adding sterile dH2O. Aliquot and store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at \n-20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.\n\nCountry of Origin: USA
