MAP1LC3A is a structural protein and a component of both MAP1A and MAP1B microtubule-binding complexes which mediate the physical interactions between microtubules and components of the cytoskeleton. A member of the MAP1LC3 family, LC3A is known to have an ubiquitin fold at the C-terminal region and 2 helices at the N-terminal region. The posttranslational modification of LC3A precursor molecule leads to cleavage by APG4B/ATG4B, resulting in the cytosolic form, LC3-I which is further activated and modified to form the membrane-bound form, LC3-II. LC3A, a mammalian homolog of yeast Atg8, plays an essential role in autophagy, leading to bulk degradation of cytoplasmic components by the lysosomal system where it acts as an adaptor protein between microtubules and autophagosomes. Abundant expression of LC3A is seen in heart, brain, liver, skeletal muscle and testis but absent in thymus and peripheral blood leukocytes.\n\nApplications:\nSuitable for use in Western Blot and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 0.1-1ug/ml\nImmunohistochemistry (formalin fixed paraffin embedded): 5ug/ml\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
