OCT1 is a transcription factor that binds the octamer motif 5'-ATTTGCAT-3' in promoters of various genes.OCT1 contains one homeobox DNA binding domain and is part of the POU transcription factor family due to the presence of one POU domain, a highly charged motif that selectively binds the octamer motif.OCT1 is also known as POU domain class 2 transcription factor, octamer-binding transcription factor, oct-1, OTF-1, NF-A1, and POU2F1.
