SOD3 (Extracellular Superoxide Dismutase [Cu-Zn], EC-SOD)

This gene encodes a member of the superoxide dismutase (SOD) protein family. SODs are antioxidant enzymes that catalyze the dismutation of two superoxide radicals into hydrogen peroxide and oxygen. The product of this gene is thought to protect the brain, lungs, and other tissues from oxidative stress. The protein is secreted into the extracellular space and forms a glycosylated homotetramer that is anchored to the extracellular matrix (ECM) and cell surfaces through an interaction with heparan sulfate proteoglycan and collagen. A fraction of the protein is cleaved near the C-terminal before secretion to generate circulating tetramers that do not interact with the ECM. EC-SOD and iNOS mRNA and protein were expressed in smooth muscle cells and macrophages in early and advanced lesions (Luoma et al., 1998).\n\nApplications: \nSuitable for use in ELISA, Western Blot, Immunoprecipitation and Immunohistochemistry. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot: 1:2000\nImmunohistochemistry (Paraffin): 1:200\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
