STAT 2 (Signal Transducer and Activator of Transcription 2)

STATs (signal transducers and activators of transcription) are a family of cytoplasmic latent transcription factors that are activated to regulate gene expression in response to a large number of extracellular signaling polypeptides including cytokines, interferons, and growth factors. After phosphorylation by JAK tyrosine kinases, STATs enter the nucleus to regulate transcription of many different genes. Among the seven STATs (Stat1, Stat2, Stat3, Stat4, Stat5a, Stat5b, and Stat6), Stat1, Stat3, Stat5a, and Stat5b have a wide activation profile (1,2). Human Stat2 cDNA codes for a 851 amino acid protein with a predicted molecular weight of 113kD (3). Stat2 associates with beta subunit of the type I IFN receptor in an interferon-dependent manner (3-5). \n\nApplications: \nSuitable for the Western blot. Jurkat cell lysate can be used as positive control and protein band of approximate molecular weight of 113kD will be detected. Western blot analysis of STAT2 on 10ug/lane Jurkat cell lysate.\n\nRecommended Dilution: \nWestern blot: 1-2ug/ml\n\nStorage and Stability: \nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. For long-term storage and to avoid repeated freezing and thawing, aliquot and add glycerol (40-50%). Freeze at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for at least 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
