Recombinant murine SDF1a is a non-glycosylated, polypeptide chain containing 68 amino acids, Mr 7.9kD.\n\nChemokine SDF-1 is highly conserved among species and belongs to a large family of small, structurally related cytokines. It is a chemoattractant for T lymphocytes, monocytes, and hemopoietic stem cells and is constitutively expressed in bone-marrow-derived stromal cells. Recent reports indicate that SDF-1 is the ligand for LESTR/fusin and prevents infection by T-cell-line-adapted HIV-1. SDF-1a and SDF-1b, are generated by alternative RNA splicing of transcripts encoded by a single gene. SDF-1a differs from SDF-1b by four C-terminal amino acid residues absent in SDF-1a. As yet, no functional differences have been reported.\n\nSequence:\nThe sequence of the first five N-terminal amino acids was determined and was found to be Lys-Pro-Val-Ser-Leu.\n\nBiological Activity:\nSDF1a is fully biologically active when compared to standard. The specific activity was determined by its ability to chemoattract human peripheral blood monocytes at 50-100ng/ml.\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Reconstitute to \n(same/more than) 100ug/ml by adding sterile dH2O and store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 6 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
