Synapsin I

Synapsin Ia and Ib are isoforms of rat synaptic proteins of 80 kD that coat synaptic vesicles (2). One of the proposed functions of synapsin I is to tether the reserved pool of synaptic vesicles to the cytoskeleton meshwork. The phosphorlyation state of synapsin I is important for its function. In a phosphorlyated state, synapsin I association with actin filaments and synaptic vesicles is inhibited (3), and dephosphorlyated synapsin I has been shown to inhibit neurotransmission in squid giant synapse (4). Genetic studies showed that mice lacking synapsin I and II are viable but experience seizures with a frequency proportional to the number of mutant alleles (2). This phenotype can be explained by synapsin serving as a regulator in providing fusion-competent synaptic vesicles at the active zone during increased rate of vesicle transport (2).\n \nApplications: \nSuitable for use in Western Blot and Immunoprecipitation. Other applications have not been tested. \n\nRecommended Dilution:\nWestern Blot (Colorimetric): 0.05ug/ml \nImmunoprecipitation: 10ug/ml \nOptimal dilutions to be determined by researcher.\n\nPositive Control:\nRat Brain Tissue Extract\n\nStorage and Stability:\nMay be stored at 4 degrees C for short-term only. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Aliquots are stable for 12 months. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap.
