Homocysteine, Conjugated

Homocysteine a sulfur containing amino acid, is formed by the transmethylation of methionine, an essential amino acid. Homocysteine may be irreversibly metabolized to cystathionine by cystathionine synthetase. This reaction uses pyridoxal phosphate (Vitamin B6) as a co-enzyme. The enzyme cystathionine synthetase is deficient in homocysteinuria, a rare genetic disease associated with high blood levels of homocysteine and the development of premature atherosclerosis. This and the association of other rare enzyme deficiencies with homocysteinemia and premature atherosclerosis led McCully to formulate the homocysteine hypothesis of atherosclerosis (McCully, K.S., The homocysteine theory of atherosclerosis. Other applications not tested.\n\nRecommended Dilutions:\nOptimal dilutions to be determined by the researcher.\n\nRecommended Control Peptide: \nH6950-01: Homocysteine (BSA)\n\nStorage and Stability:\nLyophilized powder may be stored at -20 degrees C. Stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. Reconstitute with sterile ddH2O or PBS. Aliquot to avoid repeated freezing and thawing. Store at -20 degrees C. Reconstituted product is stable for 12 months at -20 degrees C. For maximum recovery of product, centrifuge the original vial after thawing and prior to removing the cap. Further dilutions can be made in assay buffer.
